Hummingbird sailing in the azores bound for Spain
Tuesday 3 March
Left Terceira at 0820 and practised rigging and hoisting tri-sail and storm jib. These are used together in wind speeds of 45+ knots and our wind force was only F4. Once we reverted to Yankee 3 and 1st reef we set our course for Ponta Delgado on San Miguel. The passage took 12 hours ands we arrived in the dark. We phoned the marina from Terceira and were given permission to tie up in Ponta Delgado without having to clear customs – this was done the following morning. In the afternoon we had an introduction to sextant errors and taking sun sights. In the morning we were shown the Jordan drogue, then worked on our passage plan to Baiona. The mate was impressed about the marvellous scrambled eggs that Peter made.
