Lessons with the Sextant
Posted in : Oriole
21.09.19 We started the day with a lesson in celestial navigation. I now have huge admiration for any sailor relying on a sextant! The rest of the day was free so several of us (Rod, Bill, Robert, Nick and Alison) caught the bus (55 stops) down to the Jarlshof (Prehistoric and Norse remains near Sumburgh). Jo visited the Shetland museum and Clare walked around the penisula to the Knab and Broch of Clickimin. We are moored beside a Viking ship but sadly no sign of any Vikings! Skipper Neal and First Mate Lionel did running repairs on Oriole. Time for a gin and tonic!
