Preparing to head west
Posted in : Hummingbird
Yesterday saw the eager crew planning and prepping and practising. After studying a variety of weather forecasts and looking at potential destinations there was an overwhelming majority decision to forego the shipping lanes of the channel in preference of a rare and tempting weather window to allow a visit to the Isles of Scilly.
Jobs were divided between three pairs as pilotage out of the Solent, into the Scillies and passage planning took shape. Our final boat preparation included filling the fuel tanks and last minute provisioning before spending the night across the river in East Cowes.
A dinner of spaghetti bolognese prepared by Skipper and Mate set everyone up for a big sleep and this morning a perfect breeze, flat sea and sunshine at last saw us on our way; short tacking through the western Solent whilst practising our 3 point fixes and taking turns on the helm.
Everyone is excited at the opportunity to visit the Scillies and we hope to arrive tomorrow evening to see the sun set over this revered destination.
More updates at the other end.
