Starling heading further east into the Estonian islands

Posted in : Starling

Fog delayed our departure from
Roomassare, but there were no complaints from the crew, as it gave us time for brekky at the lovely marina and a chat with some fellow British sailors, who donated a new ensign flag to replace Starling’s which was a bit worn out after the thousands of miles it withstood any weather.
Though we started off motoring, we were soon sailing under lovely conditions, and while Sarah and Bridget were hard at work on tomorrow’s course, some of the crew tried goosewinging and our first jibe.
It was a day for testing all sorts of knowledge, as H’s deejaying gradually morphed into a musical quiz game and Michael taught radio usage basics. Putting the new skills to use depended on a radio response, and sadly none was forthcoming from the Kuivastu port, because our friendly harbourmaster was waiting in person (sans radio) for our arrival, having secured 11 bikes for us to set out together tomorrow.
An early dinner of sweet potato and chickpea curry was followed by onshore snacks and drinks, including some fine Lithuanian vodka, as we chilled and chatted whilst the sun set on another idyllic day in the Baltic Sea.
