Join the crew for Grenada Sailing Week

Grenada Sailing Week is famous for its mix of spectacular race courses and unbeatable atmosphere. The routes wind past white sand beaches, jungle-covered mountains, and the turquoise waters of Grenada and Carriacou – undoubtedly one of the most beautiful corners of the Caribbean. With warm trade winds and stunning scenery, the sailing is as good as it gets.

But what really sets this regatta apart is the spirit. It’s relaxed, low-pressure racing with high-energy fun. Evenings are spent ashore with beach barbecues, live music, ice-cold beers, and cocktails under the stars. There’s no pretence here, just great sailing and a fantastic crowd. It’s a magical escape from the winter cold and one of the most loved events on our calendar.

A combined tip of 5-10% is suggested but is entirely at your discretion and based on your satisfaction with their performance. See our FAQs here.

Grenada Sailing Week: Itinerary

Rather than throw you straight into racing, we begin in St Lucia and spend. a couple of sailing south through the beautiful Grenadine Islands. This gives you  time to settle in, find your rhythm, refresh or learn skills and arrive in Grenada ready to race. After five days fun racing, we sail back north to St Lucia.

Meeting and initial training

We start in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, where the crew comes together for the first time. There’s time to stow kit, run through safety routines, and get familiar with the yacht. That afternoon we sail south along the west coast of St Lucia, likely anchoring beneath the Pitons overnight, a dramatic and sheltered spot to pause and prepare.

crew ready to race with Rubicon 3

At first light the next day we depart on the 90-mile passage south to Grenada. This is very much a training sail, just in beautiful surroundings. We use the time to cover key manoeuvres, including reefing, helming, headsail changes, and to get everyone confident on deck. The open water between the islands gives a good sense of what to expect during the races, and by the time we make landfall, you’ll have found your footing.

Union Island

Final Training and Regatta Check-In

The next day is spent alongside in the race village. There are final tweaks to make, sails to check, and registration to complete. In the afternoon we may head out for a short training sail to refine roles and settle any nerves. The day ends with the Skippers’ Briefing and the legendary Welcome Party which is the first real gathering of the fleet and a good chance to meet the wider regatta community.

Grenada Sailing Week

Race Around Carriacou

The first race is often a local circuit around Carriacou, the island just north of Grenada. It includes downwind legs and close tacking along the lee shore. It’s a really varied course that rewards good sail handling and coordination. After the racing we have the prize giving and a fun evening ashore.

Grenada

Carriacou to Grenada

The second race is often from Carriacou back to Grenada. This is a longer leg, with a bit more open water. The finish line is usually off Fort Jeudy, followed by a short hop into Le Phare Bleu Marina, where there’s great food, music, and a usually a themed crew night.

Rest Day

With a full lay day berthed at Le Phare Bleu Marina, there’s time to slow down and enjoy a different side of Grenada. You can relax by the marina’s pool or small beach, visit the nearby Clarke’s Court Rum Distillery for a tasting, or take a taxi to La Sagesse Beach for a swim and lunch by the sea. For those keen to explore inland, the waterfalls and rainforest trails of Grand Etang are well worth the trip.

Tropical fish

Prickly Bay to Port Louis Marina

This is a race along the sheltered south-west coast, often close to shore, with shifting breezes and more tactical sailing. The finish is at Port Louis Marina, near Grenada’s capital. The day ends with another prize giving and party

Caribbean helming

Inshore Racing off Grand Anse

The final day of racing usually involves two short inshore races, which gives ua a chance to test our boat handling under pressure and push for a final result. Once lines are tied, we join the fleet for the final prize giving ceremony, usually held on the dock with music, food, and a real sense of celebration. It’s a party that can go on long into the night.

End of race party

Return Passage to St Lucia

The next day we set sail north, bound for St Lucia. This is a non-stop return passage, giving everyone a final chance to sail without the pressure of racing, relive the fun and memories of the last week and enjoy a final day at sea. We will likely also sail through the night so you will get to experience the magical star scapes of Caribbean sailing after sunset.
