Sail through lands of legend, where the misty Hebrides melt into the open North Atlantic and the volcanic cliffs of the Faroes rise like giants from the sea. This is “Trolls, Giants & Elves” – a hands-on sailing adventure from Scotland to the Faroe Islands.
We begin on Scotland’s west coast, weaving through the Inner and Outer Hebrides. There’s time to anchor in quiet bays, sail past remote headlands, and get a feel for the boat before heading offshore. Then we turn north, setting out on a 36-hour passage across open sea. You’ll join a full watch system, taking the helm, trimming sails, navigating, and logging our progress. It’s a unique opportunity to build confidence and develop real sailing skills under the guidance of highly experienced instructors.
After landfall, the second half of the trip is spent exploring the Faroes. These volcanic islands rise sheer from the ocean, carved by fjords and home to puffins, sea cliffs, and turf-roofed villages. We’ll sail between the islands and head ashore to explore each day. Hike to the Kallur Lighthouse on Kalsoy, perched high above vertical cliffs. Visit the dramatic site of the James Bond ‘No Time to Die’ grave. On Mykines, walk among puffins, fulmars, and gannets – it’s one of the North Atlantic’s greatest seabird colonies. If weather allows, we may also explore the islands’ famous sea caves by local boat.
Whether you’re new to sailing or building miles, you’ll be fully involved and welcomed as part of the crew. Solo travellers are very welcome, and everything is taught as we go.
