This route takes you through five of the most distinctive islands in the Lesser Antilles, with St Lucia at one end of the chain and Antigua at the other. You will sail between rainforest covered mountains, dormant volcanoes and coastlines edged with white sand, turquoise water and steep jungle clad hills. Each day offers straightforward inter island sailing with time to explore ashore. The journey includes the waterfalls and hot springs of Dominica, the bays and small towns of Guadeloupe and the French Caribbean character of Martinique.
What this voyage is really about
This is very much hands-on Caribbean expedition sailing. From day one you are involved in helming, sail trim, navigating and planning 6-8 hour passages across open water between the islands. Expect steady, warm trade winds, remote and wild anchorages and wonderful times ashore to explore. Life on board is active and collaborative. The skipper and mate guide you through each aspect of the sailing so you become fully involved, gaining real skill and confidence as the voyage develops.
Why this route stands out
Dominica, Guadeloupe and Martinique form the most dramatic section of the Leewards, with volcanic peaks, rainforest walking routes and river inlets. The sailing between the islands is some fo the best we do, and the distances give a good balance of sailing and time ashore, while the varied landscapes make every landfall different. It is a route for sailors who want real sailing and constantly changing locations and exploration rather than gentle cruising. With the wonderful islands of St Lucia and Antigua at either end, this is one of the perennial Rubicon 3 favourites.
