In the winter months, we are in warm places! You’ll find us in the Caribbean and in the lower latitudes of Europe. We runs some gorgeous 12 day trips in the Caribbean, including The Grenadines, our Leeward Islands adventure that runs between St Lucia and Antigua, and the blissful British Virgin Islands. Any of trips are perfect for total beginners and the perfect winter sun adventure.
For those of you who like some more adrenalin, we compete (quite gently!) in the Caribbean race season, including Grenada Sailing Week, the Caribbean RORC 600 and the St Maarten Regatta. We also do some very exciting offshore passages, such as Antigua to Jamaica and Jamaica to New York City, via the Bahamas. These are passages that qualify for Ocean Yachtmaster if you join as a watch leader.
In Europe, you can sail with us in January down the spectacular Coast of Morocco (Lots of time to explore ashore on this one). There are some 5 day trips circumnavigating the UNESCO biosphere of Lanzarote, an adventure that takes in the Canaries and Madeira and a gorgeous offshore sail from Madeira, the pearl of the Atlantic to NW Spain. Our final European trip in this period is the full on adrenaline of the Bay of Biscay crossing back to the UK
Now all our boats are back and it’s all about Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Svalbard. The boats starts with a Passage Making Masterclass from England up to Scotland. For those with Day Skipper and above, this is all about super charging your seamanship and skippering skills, giving you what you need to take on longer passages by yourself. By May, we are setting sail for the volcanic archipelago of the Faroe Islands, a trip that is around 70% coastal but with an exhilarating 36 hour offshore passage and from the Faroes the boats head up to Iceland and off to Arctic Norway on some of the greatest offshore passage you can do.
By mid summer, we are faaaaar up north! You can sail from the tip of Norway up to Svalbard, the land of polar bears and icebergs, or join us up there and explore its magical west coast. Other yachts are exploring the blissfully beautiful Lofoten Islands (you have to see these!) while we also run our NW Iceland and Greenland expedition. July to September is the time to try high latitude sailing and discover some of the most amazing parts of the world. Because its nearly 24/7 daylight, it’s not even very cold most of the time.
The final three months of the year see us start to head down south again. We start with the superb Bay of Biscay Expedition, with three yachts all making the crossing from England to Spain together. It starts with world class tuition in Falmouth (in 2022 we had a Whitbread race boat navigator and the British Olympic team’s weather forecaster). Following that are some winter sun offshore passages, including Atlantic Spain to Madeira, Spain to the Canaries (including an option to sail only using celestial navigation, with a course in Spain just before to teach you how). The final trips of the year are the Atlantic Ocean crossing with the ARC,an exciting offshore sail from Madeira to Morocco and on to Spain some 6 day winter sun trips along Portugal’s wonderful Algarve coast.
All Rubicon 3 trips are designed to be accessible to just about everyone. Most need no prior experience, just an adventurous mindset and a readiness to enjoy life at sea. We will teach you, support you and do everything we can to give you the best adventure of your life. Don’t hesitate to call or email for a chat and we’ll help you get on the perfect trip for you.
